The most wonderful thing about best friends is that you don’t just get a best friend out of the deal. Yes, they become a part of your family, but you also get their entire family in return.
This woman is Jeanne. My sorority sister, my may as well have been my college roommate, my fellow Butler Basketball fan, my maid of honor. She is my family. I am lucky enough to be a part of hers.
She begged and pleaded that I not invite her family to my wedding, because she wanted to have fun, and not worry about them. I respected her wishes, and didn’t invite them, even though I really thought I should have. Instead, every single member of her family, including her Grandma, whom we affectionately refer to as “Grambo” (because she’s awesome like Rambo), crashed my wedding. It’s one of my favorite parts of the entire wedding. Her family is just that fantastic.
Jeanne and her family have suffered a terrible loss. Tomorrow I am making a trip to Muncie where her dad will be laid to rest. Al was a wonderful man. I know there is nothing I can do to make her feel better, but I’m going to do everything I can to just be there for her, and her family. My second family.
